Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
